Choosing Invisalign Versus Incognito Braces

Patients look to Invisalign to help them realign their teeth without anyone else around noticing. Metal braces tend to stand out and everyone around knows that you are trying to make a change. They need to be tightened periodically and with that comes some painful appointments at the orthodontist’s office. Today, people want to be able to make a change to their appearance without anyone knowing and they want to avoid pain as much as possible. Now, aside from the invisible molds that have become so popular, Incognito braces are starting to become a go to solution for teens and adults.

Location

Incognito, also known as lingual braces, is a new product on the orthodontic market. Instead of going on the front surface of the teeth for everyone to see, they are attached to the back or the tongue side of the teeth. Most people aren’t going to notice the attachments to this part of the mouth and for the most part, a person will be able to go on about his or her day without the distraction.

In the same way, Invisalign tends to be an invisible solution. The molds are removed when a person eats but otherwise, they are left in. They are made of a clear material that is often unnoticeable. Teens and adults that are worried about their appearance often choose this option, as they want to avoid anyone realizing the changes they are making.

Care of Teeth

However, much like traditional braces, there are limitations to what a person can eat while wearing them. They cannot handle gum or other sticky foods that tend to get caught in the metal. Teeth need to be cleaned and flossed frequently and if food gets stuck in the metal or in between the teeth, there could be serious problems down the road. Because Invisalign molds are removed when eating, the teeth are completely free to be cleaned and flossed. There are no metal parts in the way that prevent proper oral care and maintenance.

Appointments

With Incognito, patients will need to visit the orthodontist frequently to get the braces adjusted. Just like the traditional version, this tends to be painful. With Invisalign, patients come in regularly to change molds but there is no need for any type of changes or adjustments. Incognito patients tend to come in more frequently than others.

Cost

Price is important when it comes to choosing the right type of braces. Invisalign molds tend to be more expensive than metal braces. They look better, are less painful, and are much more convenient. On the other hand, the Incognito brand needs much more customization, which means they cost more than the other options. They also tend to take longer to provide the same type of results.
